Dr. Margaret Cawkwell - MD, CCFP, FCFP
Dr Margaret Cawkwell is a family physician who throughout her 30 years in family medicine has had a strong love for and expertise in women’s health, maternity and child health. She has recently decided to concentrate that expertise, her energy and skills in these areas for the next phase of her career.
Dr. Cawkwell believes in patient centered/family centered care, based on the principles of shared decision making consistent with the woman’s values and needs.
To that end Dr Cawkwell has been a strong proponent of the need for up to date continuing medical education to be able to provide her patients with current evidence based medical information, allowing her patients to be well informed to make the best decisions for their health and that of their families.
In addition to her current position at Halton Healthcare, Oakville Trafalgar Memorial site, where she is Chief of the department of Family Medicine Obstetrics, she has previous held positions at Georgetown Hospital and the Maternity Centre in Hamilton with delivering privileges at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton.
Dr Cawkwell received her medical education at the University of Toronto, graduating in 1987, she went onto then complete a family medicine residency and family medicine obstetrical fellowship at the University of Toronto.
Dr Cawkwell lives in Oakville and has three beautiful young women that she is very proud to call her daughters that are keeping her up to date with the needs of the women of their generation.
